The Wollaston Lake Lodge “New Horizons on Machined Ceramics in Dentistry” will take place on July 27-August 1 of 2008. Dr. Ernst Schmidt B,Sc.,DMD will be presenting on the topic of Computerization in Dentistry and has designed the course material and scheduling to blend well with the World Class angling opportunities here at Wollaston Lake.

CAD/CAM Update. New Horizons on Machined Ceramics in Dentistry
Computerization is revolutionizing clinical dentistry! This presentation will provide an overview of where CAD/CAM dentistry was, and is going. Although the emphasis will be on in-office single-visit ceramic restorations, there will be much discussion of how the digitization of dentistry will impact dentistry in the next three to five years. This program is sure to spark lively debate among course attendants.
Day
1. A brief welcome to guests and introduction to CAD/CAM dentistry as well as a review of the development of various CAD/CAM systems with regard to machined ceramics.
Day
2. Clinical protocol for in-office machined ceramic restorations.
Day 3. CAD/CAM restorations and how they are changing the landscape of dentistry with regard to accepted dental therapeutics.
Day 4. The future of CAD/CAM in dentistry. At this point in time, the progression of computerized applications can be considered nothing less than a revolution. Industry analysts predict that a majority of offices will have at least one CAD/CAM system or component in their office by 2010. This session will deal with the irrevocable progression and impact of CAD/CAM in daily practice.
Biosketch for Ernst J. Schmidt
Dr. Ernst ‘Ernie’ Schmidt graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1981 (gold medal) and since then, has spent his entire career in solo private practice in Vancouver, BC. Though the bulk of those years were spent developing techniques for restorative dentistry with an emphasis on occlusion and gold restorations (cast and direct) , the last nine years have been involved with in-office CAD/CAM systems. In addition to the revolution of today’s machinable ceramics, Dr. Schmidt has had an interest in other computerized applications such as radiography, photography and dental informatics. In addition to presenting programs on computerized applications in dentistry, Dr. Schmidt has also presented on Practice Navigation and has lectured in Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, USA and Canada.
Dr. Schmidt shares his life between dentistry and family and has done his best to pursue his boyhood goal of fly fishing his way around the globe. Dr. Schmidt is also the founder and director of Pacific Professional Seminars.
