Lake Trout are members of the salmon family of fishes and are the largest representatives of a group of fish known as char. As such, they are closely related to Dolly Varden, Brook Trout and Arctic Char. Lake Trout are capable of growing to enormous sizes. Most anglers have only experienced Lakers in their normal deepwater environment.
Wollaston’s cold water provides you with the unique opportunity to fish them near the surface for a large part of our season. At this depth, this shy fish becomes a real tiger. Fishing for Lakers will guarantee you many unforgettable battles. Average catches run from 3 to 10 pounds. Enjoy shallow fishing in early June on smaller lakes, and from early June until late July on Wollaston Lake. Trout then go as deep as 90 feet until spawning sometime between late August and mid-September.
